Northern Fleet
Monday June 23
Grisha class anti-submarine corvettes Snezhnogorsk and Onega of the Kola Flotilla were reported training in the Barents Sea. Both corvettes were tasked with laying a minefield while under air attack. The corvettes used man portable air defense systems and ship mounted air defense systems to repel the simulated air attack link.

Tuesday June 24
The Northern Fleet started search and rescue exercises in the Barents Sea which involve the submarine rescue vessel Georgy Titov and rescue submarine AS-36. The exercises will involve searching for simulated sunken vessels and divers operating at depths of 40 meters link. 

A Tu-142MK anti-submarine maritime patrol aircraft landed at Severomorsk-1 link.

Udaloy class destroyers Severomorsk and Admiral Levchenko were visually observed in port link.

Baltic Fleet
Monday June 23
Steregushchy class corvette Boiky was visually observed entering the Baltic Sea link.

Improved Kilo class submarine Mozhaisk held torpedo firing exercises at the Baltic Sea training grounds. Playing the role of the simulated enemy submarine was the Improved Kilo class submarine Kronstadt. Mozhaisk reportedly launched several training torpedo's during the exercise link.

Steregushchy class corvette Stoiky was visually observed departing Baltiysk, Kaliningrad link.

Tuesday June 24
Special underwater forces are being deployed in training exercises within the Baltic Fleet. The training involves improving the underwater skills of these forces in depths between 10 to 20 meters and involve the use of SPP-1 underwater pistols, APS riffles and bladed weapons, as well as hand to hand combat link.

Pacific Fleet
Monday June 23
Grisha class anti-submarine corvettes MPK-107, MPK-82 and Ust-Ilimsk held a series of naval exercises near Kamchatka. The exercises involved searching surface warships and submarines, air defense and gunnery exercises against UAV and USV drones. The vessels used their AK-176M and AK-630M gun systems during this exercise. A video of the exercises also shows the Ust-Ilimsk being towed by another corvette as part of a towing exercise link.

Mediterranean
Monday June 23
Steregushchy class corvette Soobrazitelny was observed with the use of satellite imagery in a position 16 kilometers of the port of Tartus, Syria link.

The Russian Navy and the fall of Tartus

With the fall of the Al-Assad regime in Syria, the Syrian rebels allegedly gave Russia 48 hours to vacate their military presence in the naval base at Tartus and the Khmeimim airbase. It seems unlikely that Russia can broker a diplomatic deal to remain present in Tartus. It is expected that Russia will have to vacate its naval presence somewhere at the beginning of week 50. As such, the Russian Navy will now have to look what options, if any, it has to maintain some sort of maritime presence in the Mediterranean. Task Force Composition As reported by OSINT at the morning of Dec-07 Weekly Brief The Russian Mediterranean Task Force appears to have made a demonstration in force before the departure of the frigate Admiral Gorshkov to her homeport. On December 2nd and 3rd, the entire task force departed the port of Tartus for a large scale naval exercise in the Eastern Mediterranean. The exercise was supported by coastal defense batteries and naval aviation and focused on coastal defense and surface warfare. Given the involvement of several services and the availability of a dedicated simulated surface target, it appears that this exercise was planned and coordinated in advance. This contradicts the general narrative of Week 49 where it was stated that the Russian task force was evacuating the port of Tartus given the fast advance of Syrian rebels in Northern Syria. Task Force Composition As reported by OSINT at the morning of Nov-27 Weekly Brief A new intelligence collection vessel, the Yantar, has entered the Mediterranean. Since the vessel operates without an escort, a refueling stop at Algiers was expected in order for the vessel to reach the Eastern Mediterranean. The vessel is designed as an oceanographic vessel meaning that she is specialized in mapping the undersea environment. Russia uses these vessels to locate and map underwater infrastructure such as data cables. Over the next months, the Yantar will be operating in the Central and Eastern Mediterranean.
